Hello subscribers, and welcome! How is your summer going? What have you been reading? Please tell us about both in the comments (politely, of course).
The day job has been pretty busy, so I haven’t been writing as much. I’m currently writing a post on the great German sociologist Max Weber and hoping to finish it in the next few weeks. Also just reread Velleius Paterculus’ “Compilation of Roman History” (for lack of a better title) and may write an appreciation post on it and him.
In the meantime, here is some great MUSIC I’ve been enjoying. Hopefully, you will too!
“Sussudio” by Phil Collins. This was made into a meme by “American Psycho,” which is unfortunate. The song is powerful enough on its own. Note that Phil has hair and his suit looks great. The video also captures the POWER of 1980s New York — you could wander into a bar in a semi sketchy area (not the Bronx tho) and find a great band playing:
“One Thing at a Time” by Morgan Wallen. Great country pop song by a great songwriter. Note that Morgan is escaping the LONGHOUSE by telling his girlfriend — you either accept my alcoholism, or I’m leaving!
“Neutron Dance” by the Pointer Sisters. I just rewatched “Beverly Hills Cop” — read about it here. This song, which serves as the soundtrack for the chase scene in the movie, could not be better fitted for it — while also being great in its own right.
Check out ALL of the above — and play them LOUD! God bless you and thank you for subscribing.
